How to get your startup business noticed

04.2023 | By Jennifer Allen

Starting a new business can be an exciting but also challenging time, especially when it comes to getting your business or product noticed. After all, in today’s highly competitive world, it’s one thing to start a business and another to get it noticed by your target audience and potential customers. Here are five tips on how to get your startup business noticed:

1. Define your target audience

The first step in getting your startup noticed is to understand your target audience. Ultimately, your branding, messaging and overall strategy needs to be shaped around the people you are trying to reach, so defining who they are is crucial. Ask yourself, who do you want your business to speak to? What do they want from your business? What are their interests and needs?

2. Develop your brand identity

Creating a unique brand design and identity is essential to getting your startup noticed. Your brand identity should reflect your business’s mission, values and goals while being visually appealing and memorable. To ensure consistent and professional results, consider working with a design agency that can help create your logo, website and any other marketing materials required.

3. Get your brand on social media

In a world driven by the digital revolution, startup businesses can’t ignore the power of social media. From Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Tik Tok, social media can provide your startup with the perfect platforms to get noticed, connect with potential customers and build brand identity. And remember, not every social platform will be right for your business. While it might be tempting to use all platforms, decide which ones will really work for your business. Instead, filter through your social media options, and utilise the platforms that will support your strategy.

4. Focus on search engine optimisation (SEO)

Search engine optimisation (SEO) is key to getting your startup noticed. SEO is the process of optimising your website and content to rank higher in search engines like Google. By focusing on SEO, you’re likely to increase your visibility, attract more traffic to your website and ultimately drive sales. Consider working with an SEO expert, who has the experience and industry knowledge required to help maximise your online presence

5. Work with influencers

Influencer marketing is a powerful way to get your startup business noticed quickly, by a large audience. Identify influencers - celebrities or popular bloggers - within your industry who you can engage with to promote your products or services. You might want to offer them free samples or discounts in exchange for a review or mention them on their social media channels.

6. Network, network, network

Networking is crucial for startups as it can help you to build strong relationships not only with customers but with fellow business owners too. Additionally, networking provides the ideal place for learning, and accessing new resources, while helping to develop your reputation within the local community. So do your research and find local business networks close by that you can attend - and remember to take some freshly designed business cards with you.

There’s no doubt about it, getting your startup noticed requires the right approach to your overall marketing and brand strategy. But by defining your target audience, developing your brand identity, maximising social media potential, focusing on SEO and networking, you’re sure to increase your visibility and attract more customers. Remember, building a successful business from the ground up, takes time and effort, so be patient and persistent.
